Picture is my kitchen on a day when it is tidy.  The beige units are original from when the house was a show home and they have been there since the late nineties.  The gas hob has a couple of chipped places in the enamel but it is all functional so no need to change it yet.  The white unit is a Kallax from IKEA with cupboard doors and drawers installed and an oak worktop from B&Q on top.

I haven't been cooking as much as I did. Last year was pretty stressful and cooking became something I couldn't gather the mental resources for.  I still haven't got back to being able to do anything much other than maybe a couple of times a week.  I'm not sure if it is because I am depressed - I know losing interest in hobbies etc is a symptom of depression but I don't have the energy to examine that for now. For now I am letting myself be in free fall and survival mode and doing what I can to fulfil my daily obligations and then trying to be kind to myself by not setting myself too many expectations.

Here's a poem I wrote in September 2024 for a friend who was going through a tough time:

Some people are nasty.

Some people are nasty

it's simple as that

their first inclination

on seeing a cat

is to say to themselves - I would like to kick that.

Some people are spiteful

I can't say it plainer

they are best avoided

as energy drainers

don't give them headspace - it's a no brainer.

Some people are lovely

they are good through and through

their first inclination

and what they always do

is whatever is kindest and healthy for you.

And what I don't get

is why the nasty ones do

the horrible things to someone like you

and I know you are just as confused as me

which is why they are them

and is why we are we.
